News and references

Rederij Aemstelland organizes, since April 2000, numerous boat tours in Amsterdam.
Business events, family gatherings or dinners for 2 – 100 people are some examples. All special and exclusive. Hereby some examples.

January 2008:
An International car company invited 8 of their most important clients from the Netherlands for a boat tour on board the Riverside. The 6 course dinner was being held from 8 – 12 p.m. and was prepared on board by one of the cooks from ‘Chef Valentijn’.

February 2008:
A Danish group was shown around the new architecture of the eastern Docklands by a famous Dutch architect. The same sort of project is being developed in Copenhagen. It gave them a good insight what it was like to live in a former harbor area.

March 2008:
To board the boat in front of your house along one of the canals and celebrate your birthday with family and friends. Disembark for an evening with dinner in La Cuisine Française - a famous cooking ‘school’ along the Herengracht. During the tour a tray with almost 100 typical Dutch bitterballen was brought on board from van Puffelen restaurant nearby.

April 2008:
Our classic lady the Panta Rhei, just a year before her 80 birthday, made a star appearance in one of the US most popular breakfast news shows. After days of drowsy weather at 2 p.m. the sun started to shine and millions of Americans witnessed, during their breakfast, how beautiful Amsterdam is from the water.

May 2008:
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon we had a birthday party with 35 people starting at Smits Koffiehuis opposite Central Station. A nicely decorated boat, pastry from Holtkamp, a good glass of champagne and an enthusiastic guide of Mokum Events.

June 2008:
For the staff of a real estate company from the east side of Holland we organised a guided tour by bicycle in the eastern docklands with 2 architectural guides. In the evening there was a boat tour with an Indonesian rijsttafel and lots of beer.

July 2008:
The wedding guests boarded the boat at Miranda Paviljoen(Pavillion), along the Amstel river, and were brought comfortably to the wedding location, the Geelvinckhuis at the Herengracht. After the ceremonial we made a beautiful tour through the city with drinks and canapés. The evening was concluded at a party location.

August 2008:
A collector of antique wines, his guests from all over the world, catering from restaurant van de Kaart and exquisite wines made all the ingredients for a perfect 5 hour long summer cruise.

September 2008:
Two employees of a postal company were invited by their boss to have a dinner on board with their partners because they won a competition. Starting with cocktails they then decided on the menu. Along the way we catered the entree at Wenders restaurant and the main course and dessert were served on board from Hooghoudt restaurant. A small scale and exclusive event.

October 2008:
A law firm of The Hague invited one of their clients for a Surprisedinner in Amsterdam. With cocktails on board, the starter in brasserie Harkema, the dinner in the old cheese warehouse dTheeboom and a dessert buffet on board a successful evening came to an end.

November 2008:
An excellent guided tour along the borders of the IJ lake by Gemma Bakker of Bakker&Bakker. Places visited were the Kraanspoor building by architect Trude Hooykaas and the Lloyd Hotel reshaped by MVRDV architects.

December 2008:
On a freezing winter day Sinterklaas was brought ashore during a 5 minute cruise. Singing children along the quay were the gift for all.

January 2009:
Started with all the best wishes we held several new year's parties on our boats. Cruising the canals in winter remains special with the fanatstic view at the canal houses and the relative calm in the city.

February 2009:
Traditional our month for maintenance and painting. During a 3 week period our boats were overhauled for another season.

March 2009:
On the 23rd of March we celebrated the opening of our new shop called Boathouse. Centrally located next to Anne Frank house and Jordaan we provide 1 hour canal cruises and city walks. See more at: www.boathouseamsterdam.nl

April 2009:
A congress of 35 foreign cardiologists was cancelled on the last moment. The 3 remaining participants had a private tour on the Panta Rhei, a city walk with our guide Paul Derksen and a dinner at van Puffelen restaurant along the lively Prinsengracht.

May 2009:
The yearly reunion of a family was done on our Riverside boat. A cruise on the canals, a visit to the typical Amsterdam Johnny Jordaanplein with a stop at the newly opened shop for delicious ice cream, Yscupje. A second tour along the IJ terminated at Central Station.

June 2009:
During an early cruise with architectural guide Wendeline Dijkman of the Gebouwengids and 9 architects we visited the North of Amsterdam. From the former NDSM shipyard to the Shell buildings and the magnificent Kraanspoor.

July 2009:
15.000 hours of flying is enough reason to celebrate it. During a beautiful summer evening the pilots were welcomed with a personal speech, good food and for their partners a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

Augustus 2009:
1st of August we had 30 individual guests on board our boat parked in front of Anne Frank House and Boathouse to have a first class view of the Gay parade. A crazy day with lots of music, dance, drinks and originally decorated boats.

September 2009:
During one of our busiest month we had again several special cruises. The management of a housing company wanted to make a morning tour from Central Station to visit the Hermitage at the Amstel later that day. A software company rented our boat several afternoons for a networking meeting with different clients.

October 2009:
A big recruiting firm booked our short Surprisedinner due to a busy program already during the day. They enjoyed a warm first course on board the boat, had the main course in an exclusive restaurant. The evening ended with a evening cruise through the beautiful lit canals.

November 2009:
The Dutch tradition of Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) is celebrated during the month of November and early December. Every year he arrives from Spain by boat with his helpers and his horse Amerigo. This time we were there when he arrived in Amsterdam. A group of parents with their children rented our boat to visit the arrival of his boat on the Amstel.

December 2009:
During our first interview with Pauline Schueler we were looking forward to this special day. Her company `het Verleidkundig Instituut` hired the Panta Rhei for a day. On a very cold monday morning we welcomed 7 change managers of a big Dutch bank with warm coffee. They were invited for a brainstorm/change management session. During the first part of the cruise several cases were being discussed and the guests enjoyed a warm lunch on board. With Amsterdam passing by and not enough time we arrived some hours later at restaurant Ctaste. A special location on the Amsteldijk. Dining in the complete darkness served by visually impaired staff. Later that evening the guests were brought back to the Stopera by boat with (again) coffee and cognac this time. The day was reviewed in the cozy saloon.

January 2010:
An international travelagent called us to book a transfer from hotel Okura to hotel The Grand. 30 incoming touroperators with focus on Amsterdam stayed a few days in the city and prefered a boat cruise as a way of transportation.

February 2010:
A business group from Tjech republic wanted a short 1 hour canal tour through Amsterdam. With their own guide we provided a nice tour with drinks starting and arriving at the Anne Frank house.

March 2010:
After a succesfull try out a few years back a Swedish company booked again a pub crawl by boat with a Dutch Stew buffet. Before the dinner was served we stopped at the famous Hoppe Cafe, had dinner on board and took another break at `t Arendsnest, the Amsterdam beer cafe with all Dutch beers available. After the typical Dutch desert we arrived safely at their hotel.

April 2010:
Imagine your whole life you are living on a remarkable apartment aong the Amstel river in the heart of the city. Daily you can watch the classic boats sail by. When you turn 80 you just order one of these boats and book a pub crawl with your friends and family. It became an extraordinary afternoon on the Panta Rhei to be remembered for a long time.

May 2010:
Giro d`Italia in Amsterdam. A group of sponsors was treated on board to Italian minestrone soup and Dutch bitterballen. With a completely sealed off city centre the boat appeared to be the best transportation between parking place, start and finish and lookout points.
Amsterdam as the Venice of the North.

June 2010:
A high school from the south of Holland requested a boat for a whole day. They came up with a schedule during which one group visited the Rijksmuseum, another the Anne Frank house and the third did a canal cruise. After some alterations we arragned three succesfull days including a shuttle by boat between the Rijksmuseum and Anne Frank house.
